Doors open on Thursday mornings
I find the Thursday 9.15am Holy Communion Service is an oasis in the week. A traditional, peaceful service with shortened sermon, which gives time for reflection, time to pause and then step out renewed again in the midst of a busy week.
We have now extended that time when Christ Church is open beyond the service from 10am until 12 noon, when coffee/tea will be available. The church will be open for people to visit, to browse at the books, to sit quietly, pray with others, chat, bring a child to play in the children's corner. Whatever good reason people have for using the church - it is available for them.
When we started a "Coffee Shop" in the Reception Area nearly 20 years ago, keeping the church open twice a week, some interesting things happened. On the very first morning we started, a non-churchgoing woman rushed in telling me of her distress and that God told her to come to the church. As it had never been open at that time before on a weekday, I was mystified and also encouraged that God knew the church was open, and we had been obedient in doing it.
Do take up the invitation to enter God's House mid-week for whatever reason you may have. Sue Lake
